113 - Energy Modeling - Necessary Evil?

There is HEED, BEopt, ResCheck, Energy Gauge, PHPP, etc. Three guys who don't do energy modeling and describe it as "drag me kicking and screaming" and "just like going to the dentist" sound off on this key element of high performance residential buildings. And stay with us till the end: Pete tells a story connecting moisture modeling to pornography...

Pete's Resource(s):

- "Energy Modeling Software - Is It Worth Your Time and Money?" - https://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/app/uploads/sites/default/files/Energy_Modeling_Software.pdf

- NREL Energy Modeling Tools - https://www.energy.gov/sites/default/files/2019/07/f65/1_NREL-energy-modeling-tools.pdf

- MOIST download: https://users.encs.concordia.ca/~raojw/crd/essay/essay000180.html

NOTE: I put the MOIST link here because I had no idea that this hygrothermal modeling program was still available (I ran this program in my research in 1993..). And yup, my old friend Doug Burch was one of the two developers; now retired. What a mentor he was for me at the start of my building research career.
